What our customers say about our bike rental service

Cycling around Saint-Jean-de-Luz like a local

The town is easier to cover on two wheels than by car: the centre is largely pedestrianised and bikes are well accepted there. From Place Louis XIV, lined with former corsairs’ houses, you reach the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the largest Basque church in France, then the fishing harbour and the Grande Plage within minutes. The bay, closed off by three breakwaters, remains one of the few on this coast where swimming is this calm.

Crossing the Charles de Gaulle bridge, which has its own cycle path, opens onto Ciboure and its Quai Maurice Ravel, then onto Socoa: 3 flat kilometres from the harbour, a fort commissioned by Henri IV and reinforced by Vauban, a white lighthouse and the view over the whole bay. It is the easiest family outing in the area.

To go further, the coast road leads to Hendaye in about ten kilometres, with sweeping views over the bay of Txingudi: allow 45 minutes to an hour on an electric bike, the climb back is noticeable. To the north, the Vélodyssée (EuroVelo 1) reaches Biarritz via Guéthary and Bidart. Our bike ride ideas around Saint-Jean-de-Luz set out the route in detail.

The Ciboure market, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, is the most authentic in the area, and riding there saves you circling for a parking space.

Your questions about bike rental in Saint-Jean-de-Luz

For the pedestrian centre and the Grande Plage, a classic model or a hybrid is more than enough. To ride towards Hendaye and La Rhune the gradient picks up: electric assistance is far more comfortable, especially on the way back. For the tracks and dirt paths on the Rhune side, a mountain bike is the way to go.

Yes, and it is one of the finest rides on this coast. Allow 10 km, part road and part cycle path, with spectacular views over the ocean and the bay of Txingudi. Count 45 min to 1 hr on an e-bike, longer without assistance given the terrain. Lunch with your feet in the water at Hendaye Plage, then back along the Vélodyssée.

Of course. The bridge between the two towns takes bikes, and the ride out to the fort of Socoa, 3 km from the harbour, is flat and ideal with children. Waiting at the end: the lighthouse, the coastal path and restaurants facing the bay.

About 20 km along the coast road via Guéthary and Bidart. Count 1 hr to 1 hr 15 on an e-bike, longer without assistance. The route is manageable but physical. Alternative: we collect the bike on site for customers who would rather return by train or taxi. Conditions on 07 49 61 38 68.
